The President of the Republic was questioned Thursday by the press on the sidelines of a trip to Bergerac (Dordogne) on the question of public finances.

“Are you kidding?! There is no disagreement in the French Republic, there never has been because it doesn’t work like that and it’s not the way we’ve worked for seven years with the Minister of Economy and Finance.” Alongside a trip to Bergerac (Dordogne), Thursday April 11, Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his support for Bruno Le Maire, while the press has been depicting for several days relations which are turning into a storm around the budgetary slippage against the backdrop of the European campaign.

The head of state defended at length his economic strategy supported by the tenant of Bercy “with great consistency, and with the results we know”. He also confirmed that the government would not table a supplementary finance bill (PFLR), demanded by a large part of the opposition. “Those who want it, for many, it is to do additional taxes”assured the head of state.

“We must respond to this economic shock. The line is simple and has been reaffirmed: we stay the course (full employment, reindustrialization, rearmament of our public services) and we immediately close the hypothesis of saying that we are going to resolve this economic shock with more taxes, a French disease. It would take away confidence. We maintain the trust of households, businesses and our partners”added the head of state.
