Emmanuel Macron “cannot block institutions and the country any longer”supports Monday, August 12 on France Inter Chloé Ridel, spokesperson for the Socialist Party, two months after the dissolution of the National Assembly. The head of state had called for an Olympic truce during the Paris 2024 Games, thus justifying his decision to still not appoint a Prime Minister, one month after the second round of the legislative elections.

Chloé Ridel recognizes that he “unity and harmony were needed” during the Olympic fortnight. But the socialist MEP considers that “this spirit of concord” can be extended thanks to the New Popular Front. She thus calls on Emmanuel Macron to ““recognize the results of the elections.” “We must start discussing the formation of a government again (…) He must appoint a Prime Minister from the leading force in the National Assembly, which is the New Popular Front.”she insists.

To succeed the resigning head of government Gabriel Attal, the left-wing alliance has proposed the name of Lucie Castets, “swept in ten minutes” by Emmanuel Macron. Chloé Ridel maintains her support for the ENA graduate, highlighting her “very strong experience and commitment to public services”. The PS spokesperson regrets that Emmanuel Macron dismissed the New Popular Front’s proposal out of hand. “It’s a form of denial that he’s in and that he needs to get out of,” she laments. She thus recalls that he “There is a budget to prepare”and that the timetable must therefore be accelerated.

If the name of Lucie Castets does not seem to convince Emmanuel Macron, other names have been put forward by the presidential camp for Matignon, such as Xavier Bertrand. Chloé Ridel wonders “what is the legitimacy” of the current president of the Hauts-de-France region Xavier Bertrand, while “the LR group [a] 47 deputies” in the National Assembly. The PS spokesperson claims that when he was Nicolas Sarkozy’s Minister of Health, Xavier Bertrand “has made the elimination of hospital beds flourish”. “As regional president, he subsidised anti-wind farm associations. The signal that this sends is not good”she denounces. Chloé Ridel asks Emmanuel Macron to “respect [la] situation he himself created and the outcome of the ballot boxes.”
