Tuesday March 5, Emmanuel Macron reiterated his call for a strategic revival in Ukraine. However, his posture annoys several European countries as well as the United States.
After Emmanuel Macron’s recent statements on the war in Ukraine, the White House is providing an update. “President Zelensky never asked for this, he just asked for resources. He never asked for foreign troops to fight for his country“, assured John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House. In Prague (Republic Czech), Tuesday March 5, Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his position and does not exclude the sending of Western troops to Ukraine, calling for a “strategic surge”.
Western countries do not consider sending ground troops
This posture annoys certain European neighbors, such as Germany. “We need to focus on what Ukraine needs most. We don’t need discussions about ground troops,” argues Boris Pistorius, German Defense Minister. On the question of sending troops, a large majority of Western countries have indicated that they are not considering such a scenario.
