The President of the Republic spoke with readers of Le Parisien. Despite the momentum displayed, Emmanuel Macron is embarrassed by the lack of a majority in the Assembly.
Emmanuel Macron gave an interview to readers of Le Parisien on Monday, April 24. The President of the Republic has decided to change his method: he has announced a new program, a clearer government, more visible intentions. He insists on ecology, health, public services. The surprise is the famous law on immigration. The left may find it too strict and the right too soft.
Towards everyday reforms?
There are two weaknesses in his intervention. The first is on purchasing power: he refers this to a negotiation between the social partners and the employers, and, secondly, the idea that inflation, in particular food prices, will not improve before the end of the summer. Last point: a mea culpa, with a desire to recommit. The Head of State is perhaps sometimes a little upset, even humiliated, by the reception he has had for a few days. His real problem is that he does not have a majority and that he could be forced to make small daily reforms, explains the journalist from France Télévisions, Nathalie Saint-Cricq.
