The coffin advanced to Place Vendôme, in Paris, Wednesday February 14, under the windows of the Ministry of Justice which he embodied for five years. Under the gaze of his wife, the President of the Republic, and his children, Robert Badinter was applauded by the crowd during the national tribute paid to him. “It’s a very strong moment because Robert Badinter was still an exceptional person”, underlines a woman present outside. On the big screen, the life and commitments of Robert Badinter unfolded.
The destiny of Robert Badinter retraced
“The Republic made man”, summarized the president. Emmanuel Macron also retraced the destiny of the young man whose father was rounded up and then deported, and who led a lifelong fight against anti-Semitism. “I vow to be faithful to your teaching and your commitment”, he added. The Head of State announced the entry of Robert Badinter into the Pantheon, in one way or another. An obvious choice for Lionel Jospin and Laurent Fabius, his former traveling companions. The entire political class welcomed this idea of entry into the Pantheon.
