Emmanuel Macron is currently in Brazil. With his counterpart Lula, they launched a green investment program for the Amazon: one billion euros of investments, public and private.

In the heart of the Amazon forest, Emmanuel Macron came to talk about investments and biodiversity. By 2028, France and Brazil will jointly invest 1 billion euros in the Amazon. In parallel with a meeting with indigenous leader Raoni, the French president assured that indigenous peoples will be at the heart of the project. “When it was necessary to support the foundation, to preserve your share of the forest, we were there, (…) so we will continue to be there”declared Emmanuel Macron.

A major global investment plan for the bioeconomy

The project provides for a major plan for the conservation and sustainable management of forests, as well as the economic development of the territories. “We need more agreements, but above all that they are implemented, and that countries with better conditions help Brazil protect its forests,” reacted Sônia Gajajara, the Minister of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil. France and Brazil are expected to soon launch a major global investment plan for the bioeconomy, in order to combine economic development and environmental protection.
