Emmanuel Macron breaks his silence and addresses the French people in a letter, published on Wednesday, July 10. The President of the Republic asks in particular the “political forces recognizing themselves in the republican institutions” to “build a solid majority.”
After several days of silence, Emmanuel Macron chose the format of a letter to the French to express his views on the results of the legislative elections. “No one has won, no political force alone obtains a sufficient majority”the president wrote, Wednesday July 10.
Noting that the New Popular Front, with its 180 deputies, is certainly the leading force in the Assembly, but more than 100 seats short of an absolute majority, the Head of State “calls on all political forces that recognize themselves in republican institutions (…) to engage in dialogue”. A practical consequence, which does not imply naming a new government immediately. Unsurprisingly, the presidential initiative is poorly received outside his camp. First by the left, and particularly La France Insoumise. Same severity in the eyes of the National Rally.
