The gesture has been very badly seen by the NFL since the quarterback – now retired – Colin Kaepernick made it a sign of protest against police brutality and racial injustices suffered by African-Americans. Several media also reported on Sunday that the NFL had warned the artists participating in the great mass of American football not to kneel during their performances.

The NFL, however, denied, stating through the voice of its spokesperson Brian McCarthy, that representatives of the League had attended several rehearsals before D-Day. The gesture would therefore not have taken the leaders by surprise.

One thing is certain, Eminem is not one to follow the rules or the protocol: he put the knee on the ground without hesitation at the end of his interpretation of Lose Yourself.

On social media, the gesture did not go unnoticed. The hashtag #eminemkneel accompanied several thousand posts on Twitter Monday morning, most of them congratulating the singer for his gesture.
