Emilio Valerio Laderas of Montejurra Navarra 2019 | Affordable: utterly charming

Navarre is in northern Spain, between the Pyrenees and the Ebro valley which flows into neighboring Rioja.

The Emilio Valerio estate cultivates 40 hectares of vines and 15 of olive trees there, on the slopes (laderas) from Mount Montejurra in the Basque mountains, according to the precepts of biodynamics.

This cuvée is a blend of mainly Grenache, complemented by Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano.

The nose is charming, full of very ripe red and black fruits, with a hint of spice, anise and cocoa. The palate is round and plump, with the same fruity charm, to which are added slight animal notes.

The very ripe fruit gives an impression of sweetness, but the wine is dry and very light tannins bring just the right amount of relief. Serve chilled with couscous, tagine, chili.
