Fourteen media personalities were rewarded Sunday during the 8e edition of the Dynastie gala, which highlights the achievements of Quebec’s black communities. The columnist of Duty Emilie Nicolas did well by winning the opinion editor of the year award.
“It’s a recognition that means a lot to me,” she told Duty the day after its consecration. “There’s a lot of criticism and a lot of attacks that come with the work that I do. Being a woman who gives her opinion isn’t easy. Being a black woman speaking your mind is even harder. »
“That said, there is a lot, a lot of love that comes with the work that I do as well. There are people who appreciate someone who has the courage of their opinions,” adds Mme Nicholas. She also underlines the importance of this gala, which pushes for us to have “media and culture more reflective of Quebec society”.
If she won on Sunday for her work in The dutyEmilie Nicolas, an anthropologist by training, was also nominated in the Podcast of the year category for her hosting of the current affairs podcast Detours. However, it is the podcast Stories from the inside out who won.
Singer Naadei hosted the gala, broadcast on Facebook and on Natyf TV. Among the other winners of the evening, we find Vanessa Destiné (radio columnist), Meeker Guerrier (TV columnist), Azeb Wolde-Giorghis (TV/radio reporter), Nicolas Ouellet (radio host) and Sophie Fouron (TV host).
Series Decolonizing historybroadcast on the Télé-Québec website and highlighting little-known chapters of Quebec history, was crowned series or web show of the year.
The Grand Prix Dynastie was awarded to former journalist and former Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean to highlight “her leadership, her remarkable civic engagement as well as her significant contribution to the media community”.
Lawyer Tamara Thermitus won the Dynasty Impact Prize, which rewards her involvement in areas ranging from the reconciliation of indigenous peoples to employment equity and the fight against systemic racism.
The Dynastie gala is presented at Place des Arts in two parts. The media awards were presented last Sunday, and the cultural awards will be on Saturday April 27. Among the 13 cultural categories, we find among others Videoclip of the year, Artist or musical group (French-speaking and English-speaking), Author, Musical revelation and Dance personality of the year.
For the 2024 edition, the organizers received 673 applications. A jury of 37 professionals from the cultural and media sectors determines the winners based on their activities carried out between 1er September 2022 and August 31, 2023.
