Since the elections, Québec solidaire has been looking for the path it should take. The party is now known to the general public, but the social project seems to have trouble making its way to those who would benefit the most from it: seniors, families, low-income single people, SMEs, agriculture and forestry. As well say: it does not reach a majority of Quebecers who are particularly represented in rural Quebec.
Québec solidaire is good at addressing the minorities it defends, but still seems not to have succeeded in reaching the hearts of majorities who would benefit from seeing a united government exist.
In the fall of 2023, the members of Québec solidaire will have to choose the new co-spokesperson for the party. The members will have to choose the person not only who will have the rigor and competence to occupy this role, but also who, first and foremost, will manage to embody our message in order to attract curiosity and interest while winning the trust and the heart of the public.
Émilie Lessard-Therrien has this power. Thanks to her, Quebeckers were able to see that Québec solidaire was in tune with the challenges of our regions and rural areas. Fighting for air quality against the Horne smelter, fighting land speculators who threaten our arable land, defending access to obstetrics services; these are just a few cases that she has conducted. She was without a doubt the best embodiment of what a Québec solidaire MNA can represent in the regions. She has this ability to talk about identity in a unifying and open way. Her deep and sincere love of our culture, our customs and our territory allows her to share a space that resonates with many Quebecers.
Émilie embodies the recovery of power. Without telling us, she invites us to stand up. For ourselves, for our communities, for a sovereign and united Quebec.
Québec solidaire cannot do without that. Quebec cannot do without that. My hope of seeing Québec solidaire continue to grow doesn’t want to do without that either.
