Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix | A fifth victory for Max Verstappen

(Imola) Dutchman Max Verstappen resisted Britain’s Lando Norris’ comeback attempt and won the Emilia-Romagna Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sunday.

Verstappen therefore added a 59e victory on his record.

The Red Bull driver started the race in the lead and quickly widened the gap in front of his McLaren rival.

Norris started to close the gap with around ten laps to go. However, he was never able to attack Verstappen, who crossed the finish line with a lead of less than a second over Norris.

This is Verstappen’s fifth victory in seven Grands Prix this season. Norris beat him two weeks ago in Miami.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took advantage of a better strategy to overtake Carlos Sainz Jr., who settled for fifth in the other Ferrari.

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell followed in sixth and seventh place respectively.

Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez finished eighth after starting from 11e place.

Quebecer Lance Stroll, from Aston Martin, also made a good comeback by delaying his pit stop. Thirteenth on the starting grid, Stroll finally finished in ninth position.

RB’s Yuki Tsunoda got the last available point by taking the 10e rank.

The drivers will take part in the Monaco Grand Prix next week. The F1 circus will then travel to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix on June 9.
