Health: Emergency services under pressure

Endless waiting times, regulatory measures, even outright closures: like every summer, emergency services are in difficulty.

Similar situations are everywhere in hospitals in France. The French Hospital Federation conducted a survey in the establishments. Depending on the situation, emergency services deteriorated in 39% of hospitals between the summer of 2023 and 2024. This summer, a patient waited 27 hours in the emergency room. According to our information, in the Rennes emergency room, 25 patients were still on stretchers this morning.

“The real issue is the mother of all battles, it’s human resources. There is a shortage of staff in our establishments,” explains Arnaud Robinet, the president of the French Hospital Federation. The government assures that it is continuing its plan to stop this situation by upgrading guards and improving patient regulations.
