The emergency medical service operator, accused of failing to assist a person in danger following the death of Naomi Musenga, a 22-year-old woman, was sentenced on Thursday, July 4.

It was with her face hidden behind a scarf and a mask that the SAMU operator listened in silence to her sentence: 12 months suspended prison sentence. She was found guilty of failure to assist a person in danger. A relief for the victim’s family. “We don’t have hatred, but we needed justice”said Naomi Musenga’s sister. On December 29, 2017, Naomi Musenga was seized with violent stomach pains and called the emergency services. It was 11:28 a.m. In a weak voice and exhausted, the 22-year-old woman pleaded with the operator on the phone. The emergency services operator answered her. The tone was chilling.

“If you don’t tell me what’s going on, I’m hanging up.”she threatens first, before responding to Naomi Musenga, who tells her that she “will die” : “Yes, certainly one day, like everyone else.” At 2 p.m., SOS Médecins arrived at the young girl’s home. Taken to hospital in cardiac arrest, she died at 5:30 p.m., six hours after calling the emergency services.
