While the emergencies are not able to accommodate all those who present themselves there, the Samu call centers, overwhelmed with calls, try, sometimes with difficulty, to redirect them to other structures.

In a context of tense flow in the emergency room, with one in five establishments having to close its doors at least in part, during the summer, the doctors in the call centers of 15 are responsible for directing patients who can. other structures. “It’s the most difficult, the calls where you know the person needs to be examined, but you have no one to relay to because the treating doctor is not available”, says Margaux Divernet, general practitioner and regulator. In its center in Albi (Tarn), there are between 600 and 1,000 calls per day, or 20% more than last year.

His case is not isolated. About twenty centers 15 have seen their activity increase by more than 30%. General practitioners are also more solicited by these referrals from the Samu. To encourage them, they can benefit from an increase of fifteen euros per consultation. A solution to relieve emergencies that will not solve the root of the problem according to several unions, which are calling for other measures.
