Elton John’s turn to quit Twitter

After Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, producer Shonda Rhimes and singer Toni Braxton, it’s Sir Elton John’s turn to leave Twitter, citing the disinformation that has taken place there since Elon Musk’s takeover of the company.

In a short tweet, the international star, who is followed by 1.2 million subscribers posted on his official account on Friday:

“All my life I’ve made music to bring people together. However, I am sad to see today the way in which disinformation is used to divide the world. I have decided to stop using Twitter, given the change in company policy, which will now allow misinformation to proliferate without verification. »

The release comes as several celebrities pulled out of the app now owned by billionaire Elon Musk, who reinstated several accounts banned in the name of free speech, even giving former US President Donald Trump a shot.

Mr. Musk took the liberty of responding directly to Elton John’s tweet: “I love your music. I hope you will come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that concerns you? Reacting to another post questioning the authorship of Elton John’s tweet, Elon Musk added, “It’s true that most celebrities don’t write their own posts. More should. »
