“It’s a joke.” Billionaire Elon Musk denied on Wednesday August 17 wanting to buy the English football club Manchester United, a few hours after a first tweet went viral in which he announced such an intention. “Jbuy Manchester United, you’re welcome”the boss of Tesla and SpaceX had first said.

That initial tweet quickly went viral, generating in a few hours more than 500,000 “likes” on the social network. Questioned by AFP, neither Tesla nor the management of the English club had immediately responded to this first tweet. “I have no plans to buy any sports club”finally rectified the entrepreneur.
No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.

Although no shareholder holds a majority stake, Manchester United is controlled by the six children of American businessman Malcolm Glazer, who took over the company in 2005. Manchester United is one of most famous clubs in the world, but it is going through a severe results crisis and is under the wrath of its many fans on social networks.
Elon Musk is meanwhile accustomed to unpredictable and provocative statements on Twitter. He recently sold nearly $7 billion worth of shares in its automotive group Tesla, while it is in the midst of a legal battle over its failed takeover of the social network Twitter.
