Elizabeth II touching: she brings out an accessory belonging to Prince Philip, 10 months after his death

The queen has now been widowed for ten months. However, she does not fail to include her late Prince Philip in the celebrations of her platinum jubilee. On February 5, 2022, on the eve of her 70-year reign, Elizabeth II enjoyed a first small party at her home in Sandringham, Norfolk. A reception during which she appeared with a well-known cane…

The 95-year-old sovereign has indeed brought out the cane used by her husband the Duke of Edinburgh. “I recognized the cane instantly, as it was always kept in a jar near the front door.“, said royal biographer Gyles Brandreth on Monday at Telegram. “It was the duke’s cane, and it’s very touching that the queen has started using it.” The last appearance of Prince Philip with this accessory dates back to the year 2013, when he was recovering from abdominal surgery (see slideshow). The reappearance of this cane is symbolic in many respects: this wink eye of course allows the Duke of Edinburgh to be subtly integrated into this historic jubilee, but the image of the Queen leaning on this object to continue to move forward alone, after 74 years of marriage, is obviously touching.

Elizabeth II started carrying a cane last October. The appearance of this accessory had not failed to arouse serious concerns across the Channel as to the state of health of the queen, who spent a night in the hospital that same month. However, Buckingham wanted to be reassuring and the sovereign was back in business a few weeks later.
