Elizabeth II: First major public outing in months, with a disconcerting rider…

Impossible for her to miss the tribute ceremony to her husband, who died in April 2021, at the age of 99. Nearly 1,800 people gathered in Westminster on Tuesday. So many guests who were unable to pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh during his funeral organized in Windsor in a select committee last year, due to the pandemic. The British are entitled to a meeting of the royal family as there had not been for a long time: Prince Charles and his wife Camilla are of course present, as are Prince William and Kate Middleton, who have just returned from their official trip to the Caribbean. The Cambridges have also come to Westminster with two of their three children: Prince George and Princess Charlotte (8 and 6 years old), their little brother Louis (3 years old) having probably stayed with his nanny in Kensington.

An emotional year for Elizabeth

Prince Edward, his wife Countess Sophie of Wessex and their children Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount James are also there, as are Princess Anne, her husband Vice Admiral Tim Laurence and their children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, came with their daughters. Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson also made the trip with their husbands Jack Brooksbank and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. As expected, only Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are conspicuous by their absence. The Sussexes ultimately didn’t make the trip from California and they shouldn’t until their safety is restored by Scotland Yard…

This year 2022 is definitely rich in emotion for Queen Elizabeth who, in addition to honoring her late husband, is celebrating her platinum jubilee, or her 70 years on the throne. A big party weekend is planned for early June across the UK.
