Elite J19: Limoges CSP chain a 3rd defeat against Nanterre, “these are the vagaries of a season”

The Limoges CSP is well in the hard. Massimo Cancellieri’s players have just had a third defeat in a row. After Strasbourg and Gravelines, the Limogeauds fell at home this Saturday evening against Nanterre 63 to 77.

The meeting: a Limoges CSP across in the last quarter

In the game for 30 minutes despite the poor form of Demonte Harper (see below), the Limoges CSP dropped in the last quarter. Unable to score, the Limougeauds saw their opponents take off. Saturday evening, the CSP still lost far too many balloons (18). After this 3rd defeat in a row, Limoges finds itself 10th before a trip on Saturday to the Bourg parquet floor, which has just lost at home against Pau.

The in-form player: Nicolas Lang did what he could

Although targeted by the opposing defense, captain Nicolas Lang finished the game with 16 points and 17 rating. He only finished 6 out of 13 in shooting but his 4 assists darkened his statistics sheet. Only downside, his 4 ball losses.

The day without: Demonte Harper is in the hard

Excellent in December before being stopped short by the covid, Demonte Harper (9 points to 4 out of 10 in shooting, 5 lost balls, 10 of evaluation but a +/- of -22) is in a difficult period. This had already been seen during the two defeats in Strasbourg and Gravelines but on Saturday evening it was even more obvious against Nanterre. Especially during a completely failed 1st quarter. He is in trouble just like CJ Massinburg, far from his level of the previous months, and it is probably not unrelated to the bad patch of Limoges CSP.

The declarations: Cancellieri and Lang no more worried than that

Don’t ask me if I’m worried, the answer is no – Massimo Cancellieri

Massimo Cancellieri, coach of Limoges :”right now, we’re not scoring when it counts. It’s very difficult because we don’t have someone to say, ok we trust him. We always have to play as a team. When things get tough, we tend to stop playing as a team. It happens. We must continue to work as in the first part of the season. We did not win but we continued to work. It’s exactly the same thing there. We just have to understand that we are able to react when we have problems. It’s my job to make them understand how to do it. So don’t ask me if I’m worried, the answer is no! I expected a period like this. I will work on it“.

Mentally, you will have to be much stronger – Nicolas Lang

Nicolas Lang, back and captain of Limoges :”I find us a bit sluggish in the last quarter. It sticks out a bit for some. You shouldn’t panic either. We don’t have the team to panic now and get up behind. We started the season with two losses. It was kind of the same kind of matches. We continued to work. These are the vagaries of a season. On the other hand mentally, it will be necessary to be much more solid. It’s when things are going badly that you see who really has self-confidence and do you manage to hold your head up. It is now that we will see if we really trust ourselves. It is only with work that we will regain confidence. It’s complicated but we’ll do the accounts at the end of the season“.

As an aside: a rather convincing first for Ingus Jakovics

For his 1st match with Limoges and against an opponent of a very good level, the new Latvian leader of the CSP played more than 21 minutes. The time for him to show his qualities as a manager, within the limit of what he could do in the field just a few days after having put down his suitcases in Limoges. He finished 2-of-6 shooting but showed he was capable of being an additional threat from behind the 3-point line.
