Élise Gravel wins a prestigious award

Quebecer Élise Gravel won the Vicky Metcalf prize in Toronto on Wednesday, which recognizes the work of an author or author of children’s literature.

The one who notably wrote and illustrated The Potato on a Bike, You can and It’s my body also received a $25,000 scholarship.

This award was presented at the annual Writer’s Trust awards night, where seven authors were honored.

The prestigious Atwood Gibson Prize for Best Fiction went to Nicholas Herring for his debut novel, Some Hellish. This prize was accompanied by a $60,000 scholarship. Rima Elkouri, journalist at The Presswas nominated for his novel manam, translated by Phyllis Aronoff and Howard Scott. Quebecer Kevin Lambert was also in the running for Quarrel of Roberval (Roberval Quarrel, in a translation by Don Winkler). The other finalists were Darcy Tamayose for Ezra’s Ghosts and Saeed Teebi for Her First Palestinian.

The prize for best essay went to Dan Werb for The Invisible Siege: The Rise of Coronaviruses and the Search for a Cure.
