Elisabeth Guigou, Minister of Justice from 1997 to 2000, reacts, on the set of 13 Heures, Friday February 9, to the death of Robert Badinter. She says she is losing “a friend” and remembers a man of “great moral elegance”.
On the morning of Friday February 9, Emmanuel Macron greeted “the French spirit” of Robert Badinter, after the announcement of his death. The feeling of losing a moral figure? “I lose a friend. (…) It’s sad and at the same time a great gratitude, for everything he did, everything he left us, everything he represented”, reacts Elisabeth Guigou, Minister of Justice from 1997 to 2000, on the set of 13 Heures. She greets “a life of commitment”.
A “moral elegance like little we know”
The former Minister of Justice describes him as “a man of great culture and (…) moral elegance like few others know”with “a lot of humor”Who “formed with his wife, Elisabeth, an extraordinary couple”. For Elisabeth Guigou, Robert Badinter was above all “carried by its commitments”. “The speech he made against the death penalty, everyone remembers it. (…) The reactions he had during the commemoration of the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup, we were all , first, in communion with him, (…) but in this rage that he showed”she says.
