Another warning shot. While taking part in a debate on the war in Ukraine in the Senate on Wednesday, October 26, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said that Russia “will have to answer” of “barbaric violations of the laws of war”. Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Russian army has been frequently accused of committing war crimes and several investigations have been opened, especially on the side of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“Where the Ukrainian army advances, the liberation is accompanied by the discovery of massacres or mass graves, as in Boutcha in the spring and more recently in Izium. These are shocking, revolting, monstrous acts”said the Prime Minister.

Elisabeth Borne also mentioned comments “incredible” of the Russian Minister of Defense on the supposed preparation of a “dirty bomb” by Ukraine. “It’s nothing but another lie from Moscow to legitimize the escalation”she said, before being pessimistic about the resolution of the conflict.

“Despite the Russian weaknesses, do not believe for a moment that the end of the fighting is nearshe launched. Russia is ready for anything. And it is not on a battlefield but around a negotiating table that we will find a way out of this war.”she said.

France will continue to deliver arms to Ukraine, in particular “anti-aircraft systems like the Rattlesnake”said the Prime Minister.
