Elisabeth Borne qualifies the National Rally as a party “heir to Pétain”

The Prime Minister attacks the RN. In an interview broadcast by Jewish community radio station Radio J on Sunday, May 28, Elisabeth Borne said the far-right party was the“heir of Pétain”Collaborating Field Marshal during the Nazi invasion of France in World War II.

“I do not believe at all in the normalization of the National Rally, said the prime minister. I think you shouldn’t trivialize your ideas, your ideas are always the same. So now, the National Rally is putting the forms in it, but I continue to think that it is a dangerous ideology. Before adding that, according to her, a victory for the RN is “possible” in 2027, the year of the next presidential election.

Asked about the name change of the party, operated in 2018, Elisabeth Borne believes that this was not accompanied by a break with the ideas of the formation. “I have never heard Marine Le Pen denounce what the historical positions of her party may have been and I think that a change of name does not change the ideas, the roots”launched the Prime Minister.

In her diatribe, the head of government also declared that Jean-Luc Mélenchon and La France insoumise had “a share of responsibility” in the rise of the extreme right, “when we [le] sees screaming in front of the police ‘the Republic is me’, when we actually hear him wanting to break up, shoot down the ‘bad Republic’, constantly making outrageous remarks”. She then accused the LFI deputies of “[ne pas jouer] the game of democratic debate in the National Assembly”. Sunday morning, neither the RN nor LFI had reacted to these attacks.
