During her general policy speech to deputies on Wednesday July 6, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne had to deal with heckling and strong criticism from the opposition.

Elisabeth Borne’s baptism of fire took place on Wednesday July 6 during her general policy speech. Without an absolute majority, forced to find compromises to govern, the Prime Minister revealed herself. For almost an hour and a half, she laid out her priorities. Renationalize EDF to control France’s energy dependence, aim for full employment, recruit caregivers and magistrates. The thorny issue of pensions has caused an uproar in the National Assembly.

As expected, the vote of confidence of the deputies was not requested at the end of the speech, in spite of the insistence of the opposition. Marine Le Pen challenged her on this subject. “Madam Prime Minister, today you are unable to request a vote of confidence. And I dare say that you have done well, because we have no confidence in your government”said the President of the National Rally group at the Assembly. Same reproach from the Nupes who tabled a motion of censure this Wednesday in order to bring down the government.
