Elisabeth Borne goes to the emergency room of Pontoise, public hospitals claim 2 billion euros

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne arrived this Friday in the middle of the afternoon at the Pontoise hospitalin the Val-d’Oise near Paris, where she must discuss with health professionals and patients to present the immediate measures adopted by the government for the hospital this summer. She is due to speak at 4 p.m.

The “flash mission” on emergencies, ordered by Emmanuel Macron on May 31, has submitted this Thursday 41 proposals to the head of governmentcentered around three main lines: more financial resources, more staff, and more thorough sorting in the orientation of patients.

Extension of 2 billion euros demanded by hospitals

On their side, public hospitals are demanding this Friday a budget extension of 2 billion euros for the year 2022, in order to compensate for inflation and the increase in the civil servants’ index point of 3.5% announced on Tuesday, indicates the French Hospital Federation (FHF). This amount is needed to make up the shortfall

The surge in prices affects hospitals in terms of energy, food, medical devices, but above all works, where the explosion in the price of raw materials results in “average increases of 15% to 25% in responses to calls for tenders”underlines Cécile Chevance, head of the finance department of the FHF, during a press conference this Friday. The FHF therefore calls for “a revision” of the Social Security budget so that “establishments do not have to save money”.

According to the French Hospital Federation, it will also be necessary to find an additional billion euros for the year 2023in order to compensate for various salary increases linked to Ségur de la Santé, possible “catch-ups” inflation by energy suppliers, and the increase in healthcare expenditure in hospitals linked to the aging of the population. “It is difficult to see how we could be below a range of 4 to 5 billion euros”launches Cécile Chevance of the French Hospital Federation.
