Elisabeth Borne calls on L1 footballers to “become fully aware” of the climate crisis

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne called on Ligue 1 footballers on Tuesday 6 September to “be fully aware” of the climate crisis, after the storm unleashed by PSG coach Christophe Galtier and player Kylian Mbappé on the club’s modes of transport.

“I think it is important that they realize what world we are in, that they realize that there is a climate crisis which is no longer a hypothesis for tomorrow but which is a reality now”she said on the sidelines of the inauguration of a police station in Paris.

The PSG coach sparked controversy Monday at a press conference. Asked about his team’s air travel, he explained that the club was thinking about moving “in a yacht” in the future, while Kylian Mbappé burst out laughing at the statement of the question.
