Elie Chouraqui “in rage” because of Pascal Obispo, he’s doing it again

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the famous musical, Pascal Obispo brought the work up to date.

Indeed, the 10 Commandments will make its comeback in March 2024… or almost. Indeed, the singer revealed that this show would be a little different from the version where we were able to see the late Daniel Lévi.

“It’s a new show! It’s not a return of the musical. We’re not doing the same thing again, but another version with a new choreographer, a new director, a new troupe. With the same songs certainly, but with unreleased ones. It’s a bit like Starmania, which has had several versions”he explained on the microphone of Télé-Loisirs.

But this announcement put Elie Chouraqui beside himself

. In fact, the director filed a complaint against the production and Pascal Obispo

For “copyright infringement, trademark infringement, unfair competition and parasitism”. According to the Parisian, he is asking for 426,000 euros in damages, as well as a ban on this show and the use of the brand “The ten Commandments”, otherwise “heavy penalties.” However, Florent Pagny’s friend

has not received any documents at this time.

This Wednesday, October 4, Elie Chouraqui once again had the right to speak on the set of 8 p.m. from Ruquier broadcast on BFM TV. During his speech, the man returned to the birth of his work. “There are things that are done and there are things that are not done. I created the 10 commandments in 2000. I called Pascal Obispo, Sonia Rikyel, Kamel Ouali and the others. I said ‘this is what I want to do, this is what I’m going to do’ (…) I called Pascal Obispo, I convinced him to do it. I took him with me on this adventure. For two years , we worked side by side. It was a friendship honeymoon. We worked together“, he recalled.

For him, taking up the 10 commandments means moving away from the original and therefore, it is no longer the right name. “It’s not the 10 commandments. It’s a whole, it’s a whole. It’s a staging, it’s a choreography. It’s a way of telling the story. It’s something that is inseparable”, he added. Before concluding : “It makes me angry because I’m afraid that my show will be damaged (…) We can do anything with these songs but not a musical show, a musical called the ten commandments”. It remains to be seen whether he will win his case.
