The first stage of the Tour de La Provence, which linked Istres and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, on Friday February 11, kept all its promises. After the victory of Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers), Thursday, during the prologue, it was his compatriot and teammate Elia Viviani who won the first stage in the Camargue.

In a stage marked by the wind, it was in a curb that the winner of the day was. Superbly accompanied by Richard Carapaz and Ganna, Viviani only had to drive the point home in the last meters. He is ahead of Sep Vanmarcke (Israel – Premier tech) and Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) in the sprint.

The French world champion carried out a superb operation by regaining nine seconds overall after two intermediate sprints and this third place at the finish.
