Eleven people were injured on Saturday November 4, including seven seriously, in carbon monoxide poisoning in a residential building in Garges-lès-Gonesse, the Val-d’Oise prefecture told AFP. Firefighters were called around 8:30 a.m. to intervene in a three-story house, with seven apartments, located in the old town of Garges-lès-Gonesse.

The building was completely evacuated, requiring the exit of 19 residents. This operation involved 47 firefighters, police and SAMU personnel. “Seven people in absolute emergency were transported to Garches hospital, four in emergency relating to that of Gonesse.detailed the prefecture.

Initial findings suggest an accidental leak in the heating system and boiler, according to the prefecture. Carbon monoxide poisoning, an odorless and toxic gas, is common in the cold season due to an outdated or poorly maintained heating system. Each year, nearly 1,300 accidents are recorded in France, responsible for around a hundred deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
