Eleven people were killed and four were injured in an arson attack on a bar in northern Mexico on Saturday morning, authorities said.
The fire broke out in an establishment in San Luis Rio Colorado, a city in the state of Sonora, in the north of the country, bordering the United States.
“So far, eleven people have died, seven men and four women, and four injured people are being treated at hospitals in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora and the United States,” the Sonora district attorney’s office said in a statement.
The same source said that in the early hours of Saturday, a man threw a flaming object, probably a Molotov cocktail, into the establishment from which he had just been expelled for having “disrespected women”.
“Investigations are still underway to clarify the facts and establish the corresponding responsibilities”, as well as to identify the suspect, said the prosecutor’s office.
