Who will win the last major tournament before Roland-Garros? In the absence of the main favorites, Iga Swiatek or Ons Jabeur, both injured, the final of the WTA 1000 in Rome opposes two outsiders to come Porte d’Auteuil, Saturday, May 20. On one side, the Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina, sixth player in the world. On the other, the surprising Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, currently 47th in the world hierarchy.

The first seems to have spent less energy on its way to the final, benefiting from the retirements of Anna Kalinskaya in the third round and that of Iga Swiatek in the quarters. In total, she will have played only eight complete sets, when her opponent is at thirteen, winning in three sets in her last three outings.

When Kalinina has won only one career tournament, the 125 in Limoges in 2022, Rybakina is the title holder of Wimbledon and has already been crowned in Masters 1000, in Indian Wells last March. But the latter is still waiting for her first title on clay.
