French electronic music legends Air and Phoenix will take part in the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games at the Stade de France, the ceremony’s artistic director, director Thomas Jolly, confirmed on Friday, August 9.

The spectacle of the ceremony “will be concluded by a festive musical moment, with two groups, joined by other artists, Air and Phoenix“, declared Thomas Jolly from the hangars of Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) where the final preparations are taking place.

The Versailles quartet from Phoenix is appreciated in the United States for its edgy, electronic-accented pop in English. Among other things, they played at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2010 with the duo Daft Punk, who have since split up and were largely absent from these Paris Olympics.

Air, another group of the “French Touch” also originally from Versailles, was propelled in 1998 by the album Playground Loveoriginal soundtrack of the film The Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola. The two groups also played together in July on the roof of Paris-CDG airport, for its 50th anniversary.

Thomas Jolly did not reveal any other names, but promised a great cast. Rap veteran Snoop Dogg, a special correspondent for American television NBC and a viral icon on the networks, should perform Sunday night, claims the American magazine. VarietyThe latter also cites the singer Billie Eilish, a native of Los Angeles, or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, an emblematic group of West Coast rock from the 1990s, capable of bringing a stadium to its feet.

Some are dreaming of a performance by music megastar Beyoncé, a fervent supporter of Team USA on her social networks, or even Taylor Swift, who is not officially due to play again until Thursday, August 15 in London.
