Created in 2014, the No Money Kids group is a pure local product… Parisian! Félix Matschulat (guitar-vocals) and JM Pelatan (bass-machines-samples) met in a recording studio in the suburbs of Paris. And it is also in the suburbs, in Argenteuil, that the two friends simmer the “good blues sound”to know “a sound that will fetch old instruments, old microphones, types of sounds that remind us of something and that we will mix with something new”, explains Felix. It’s also called “lo-fi” rock (“low fidelity” sound, as opposed to hi-fi), a term that designates “primitive recording methods for producing ‘dirty’ sound”.
The sound of No Money Kids is both very rock, with influences drawn from the blues of the 40s and 50s, all enhanced by electro sounds that give a real rhythm to their compositions. “It has to dance !”, says the duo.
Is it for this both “roots” and terribly current side that the group has been spotted by musical supervisors around the world? Still, several of their singles were used in television series (Banshee, Night Shift, Veep, Killjoys, Goliath, Dollar, Legacies, Servant, and Shameless…) but also in movies (Misconduct, Get the Girl, Baby, Baby, Baby…).
If some tracks actually make you want to dance, the songs rather tell of the dark side of life. Fourth album of No Money Kids, released on November 26, 2021, Factory is the perfect illustration.
For this new opus, the duo is interested in the industrial world, that of factories, workers and more broadly in the difficulties and disillusions of life. For Félix, the song that synthesizes the writing and the whole atmosphere of the album Factoryit’s Crossroad. This song is really significant of this universe, declares the singer on the site rockfashion.net.
