February 1, 2022 marks the rise in the price of electricity. The government has therefore decided to act for the French and to block this increase in tariffs at 4%. On a tray on the news from 13 hours, the journalist Dorothée Lachaud explains this measure in detail.

Faced with the rise in the price of electricity, the government decided to act for the wallets of the French, Tuesday, February 1. The increase in tariffs will therefore be blocked at 4%.“It changes the situation, otherwise it is estimated that prices would have jumped 35% for the consumer”, detailed Dorotee Lachaud, journalist live on the set of 13 hours. Concretely, this therefore represents an increase of 38 euros per year against 330 euros if this were not capped.

This measure will cost around 14 billion euros to the State, which “has also decided to involve EDF, of which it is the majority shareholder, by forcing it to sell a greater volume of electricity to its competitors”. This is what caused a recent strike action, because it is contested by EDF employees. In addition, its rates cannot be blocked indefinitely.
