As electricity prices rise, companies that see their contract ending with their energy supplier will have to negotiate new terms.

Tuesday, October 4, the countdown began for businesses. Energy contracts are coming to an end and the pressure is mounting. Despite the soaring prices, new offers must be signed as soon as possible. In Deux-Sèvres, a company manufactures custom furniture. His machines consume a lot of electricity. A month ago, the boss received an offer from his energy supplier: a three-year contract to be signed immediately. He had 53 minutes to make his decision. He has until November 30 now to find a new contract. His energy supplier defends himself: the market today is too uncertain, according to him.

Do companies have to sign these new contracts? Yes, answers the Energy Regulation Commission. Its president, Emmanuelle Wargon, believes that waiting, “it’s taking the risk that prices will rise”. Energy suppliers are received on Wednesday October 5 in Bercy (Paris). They should commit to offering reasonable contracts to companies that are due to renew their contracts soon.
