What if tomorrow, all heavy goods vehicles were electric? This is the choice that some carriers make for ecological and economic reasons. In Tours (Loir-et-Cher), a company decided to take the plunge. Reporting.

Equipping yourself with an electric truck is the gesture for the planet of a small SME located near Tours (Loir-et-Cher). During a tour to deliver bolts to another company, one of the employees must travel 50 km. No exhaust or gas tank on his truck, but instead, five batteries. And the result is six times less greenhouse gases than a diesel, but also less autonomy. With his electric truck, the employee can travel up to 300 km, which poses no problem for his short tours: “It’s pleasant to drive, as I tell my colleagues, to try it is to adopt it”he says.

The approach is also approved by this carrier’s customers. For SME managers, electric trucks have real benefits for the health of their employees, especially for those who unload the trucks: “It is an asset for the operators who work (…) the fact that there is no emanation of gas from the exhaust, that remains something interesting and positive”. For the moment, the SME has only one electric heavy goods vehicle out of the 38 in the company. The electric truck cost a lot of money: 325,000 euros including 50,000 in state aid.
