Automobile: electric figures in France
Automobile: electric figures in France – (France 2)
Diesels, and thermal cars in general, will have to become increasingly rare over the years, before being banned from sale in 2035. In the meantime, motorists are seriously starting to turn to electric vehicles.
Have more French people bought electric vehicles in 2023? “Much more numerous… We even reached a record: of all the new cars sold last year, more than one in four plugs into an electrical outlet“, indicates journalist Jean-Paul Chapel. In detail: 17% all-electric vehicles, and 9% for plug-in hybrids which run on electricity and fuel.
100% electric sales in 2035
However, electric cars are not sweeping onto the roads. “In total, the number of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles already on French roads reaches 1.5 million. But out of a vehicle fleet of nearly 40 million vehicles, that only represents 4%. We are still far from the objective set for 2035: no longer selling thermal cars (petrol or diesel). On this date, sales will be 100% electric“, concludes the journalist.
