Electric Compact Pickups | General Motors and Nissan consider marketing

The great popularity of the Ford Maverick will have taught us something fundamental: not everyone wants a full-size pickup truck capable of towing an ocean liner. General Motors (GM) and Nissan are well aware of this and would now like to venture into the compact pickup segment with electric models.

The specialist journal Automotive News learned that GM was working on the possibility of offering a two-door electric pickup with a small rear bed of 1.20 m or 1.37 m. This would undoubtedly give him greater ease in urban areas. GM would target a starting price of around US$30,000 (close to C$40,000). No technical details have leaked regarding this project.

The Nissan Surf-Out style study

On the Nissan side, we would study the possibility of offering an electric version of the Frontier midsize pickup. That would make it the automaker’s third electric model along with the Leaf and the just-launched Ariya crossover. The Surf-Out style study unveiled in 2021 could probably serve as inspiration in his case.

Two very interesting projects to follow.
