Less autonomous and less available on the profitable used vehicle market, electric vehicles are struggling to find a place in France. Conversely, models running on diesel continue to appeal.
Thermal or electric car? At 61, Pierre does not hesitate. He has always driven diesel cars and accepts this choice. “I bought a diesel SUV. The advantage, [c’est que quand] I fill up, I make 1,000 kilometers with“, he says. However, at the pump, the price of diesel is increasing. This is not a problem for him, because he considers that his car consumes little. Ahmed, for his part, hoped to find the ideal model in his electric utility vehicle purchased for his construction business.
Only 1.6% of electric vehicles available second-hand
But today, he wants to get rid of it, three months after his purchase. It refers to a similar model, but diesel, because the autonomy is much better than electric. At a used vehicle dealership, only thermal models are offered. He can’t sell electric vehicles. In the automobile market, second-hand vehicles are in vogue. This represents more than three out of four vehicles sold in France. More than half of them run on diesel and only 1.6% on electric.
