Electric car manufacturer | Lucid, with solid bookings, soars to Wall Street

(New York) Lucid Air, an American group that recently started producing an electric sedan, flew to Wall Street on Tuesday, where zero-emission cars are on the rise, after reporting a solid increase in pre-orders.

The company’s stock, which entered the NASDAQ in late July, gained 9.6% to $ 49.20 around 10 a.m.

The release in September of the first vehicles intended for customers on the assembly line at its Casa Grande, Arizona plant has sparked interest: bookings have climbed 30% since the end of September, to more than 17,000 bookings currently for a car priced at a minimum of $ 77,400 in the United States.

Up to 837 km of autonomy

The group also received certification from the US Environmental Agency during the quarter ensuring that its Lucid Air sedan could travel more than 752 kilometers with a single charge, and up to 837 kilometers for the most luxurious model.

The Lucid Air was also named Car of the Year 2022 by the trade magazine on Monday. MotorTrend.

The group, which again recorded a net loss of $ 524 million in the third quarter for a turnover of $ 232,000, still expects to produce 20,000 units in 2022 despite supply and logistics problems.

Lucid is in the process of expanding its only factory to add 265,000 square meters, which should enable it to reach by the end of 2023 a production capacity of 90,000 vehicles per year.

The group’s share initially stagnated after arriving on Wall Street at the end of July via the merger with a company already listed (SPAC) at around $ 25 before starting to gain height in late October.

It benefits from investor enthusiasm for some companies making electric cars like Tesla, which recently joined the small club of companies worth more than $ 1 trillion on the stock market, and Rivian, which has more than doubled its price since its inception in Exchange Wednesday.

Having produced just a few hundred vehicles, Rivian is now worth more than $ 140 billion on Wall Street, almost as much as Volkswagen.
