Elections Quebec 2022 | Legault makes a connection between Trump and Duhaime

Caquiste leader François Legault drew a parallel between Éric Duhaime and Donald Trump on Friday, accusing the Conservative leader of denying the facts about the management of the pandemic to win votes.

The day after the party leaders’ debate, Mr. Legault began his day by bluntly attacking his Conservative opponent.

In the riding of Laval-des-Rapides, the CAQ leader harshly criticized Mr. Duhaime for his positions against mandatory health measures during the pandemic.

“I understand that people in the population are tired of the measures,” he said at a press briefing. But that a leader is not responsible and comes to encourage people not to follow the measures when it is clear that there has been less excess mortality in Quebec… He even denies it, he reminds me of someone to the south, he denies the numbers. »

Mr. Legault did not name Donald Trump but he confirmed that he was indeed drawing a parallel with the former President of the United States.

“You know very well that I am talking about him,” he replied to reporters.

Mr. Legault has declared that Mr. Duhaime is unfit for the post of prime minister and party leader because of his positions. He was surprised that the people of Quebec could tolerate this.

“There are people who support him, noted the chief caquiste. I do not understand how a people who are united can accept that a guy has played the role of agitator for two years. Taking advantage of some people’s distress to win votes doesn’t make sense. This is not the kind of leader we want in Quebec. »

Campaigning in Montreal, Mr. Duhaime saw Mr. Legault’s attack as a follow-up to Thursday night’s debate.

“He obviously didn’t like his debate, he’s not happy with his performance and he’s starting to see that the Conservative Party is perhaps a more serious opponent than he first thought. »

More details will follow.
