Elections Quebec 2022 | Conservative leader Éric Duhaime would fall behind in Chauveau

The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) could well elect deputies in Beauce or elsewhere in Quebec without managing to bring its leader, Éric Duhaime, into the National Assembly, according to a new poll published on Friday.

Contrary to what many believed, the PCQ and the CAQ would not be neck and neck in the riding of Chauveau, according to a Segma Research poll commissioned by The sun and FM93. The candidate of the Coalition avenir Québec, Sylvain Lévesque, would overtake Éric Duhaime by eight percentage points in the voting intentions (43% against 35%).

The sounding was carried out by telephone between September 26 and 28 with 510 respondents. Its margin of error is 4.3%.

Invited to comment on the news, Éric Duhaime did not show an ounce of discouragement. “I have confidence: the Conservatives are potentially more discreet voters. We risk having a bonus at the ballot box and I am very optimistic,” he said. He is also counting on the fact that advance voting was very popular in Chauveau.

However, the Conservatives are stepping up their efforts on the ground. Mr. Duhaime also sent a letter to all the residents of the riding, in addition to appealing to his activists in the surrounding ridings to lend a hand in Chauveau.

On Thursday, another poll placed the PCQ ahead in the riding of Beauce-Nord. The party could therefore elect a deputy without winning a seat for its leader.

Asked about this possibility, Éric Duhaime did not want to come forward. “I have only one plan right now: to spend the last 72 hours making sure that all citizens of Chauveau will vote Conservative. »

Earlier in the campaign, the Conservative leader said he was here for good and said he wanted to devote 10 years to the party.
