One week before the election, the main mayoral candidates want to encourage Montrealers to go to the polls, while the polls are extremely tight.

“I have confidence, because the machine is well oiled, we have volunteers, the funding is going well, and we feel that we have a lot of support from the population. The challenge is for that desire to materialize [lors des élections]», Confided the head of Project Montreal, Valérie Plante, on the sidelines of a press conference Thursday morning.
According to a Léger survey –Le Journal – Montreal Gazette, Mme Plante and Denis Coderre, leader of Ensemble Montréal, are each tied with 36% of the voting intentions.
“I’m going forward. This is my 12th election campaign; I lost some and I won some. We know what to do, we have to go find people and convince them, ”said Mr. Coderre, who said he was rather optimistic in this last stage of the electoral campaign.
Ms. Plante hopes to stand out with her housing plan, which she sees as her flagship promise of this election. She also believes that her party is in the best position when it comes to the environment.
“For us, the fact that we are equal is a motivation, she revealed. Even when the polls put us first, you can’t take that for granted. ”
For his part, Mr. Coderre emphasizes safety and Montrealers’ desire for change, believing that his team has more experience and skills. He also says he is “very, very happy” with the campaign he led and the involvement of his candidates.
“If we want to have a city that looks like us, it doesn’t matter who you want to vote for, go do it, and it will be up to us to gain your trust,” he insisted.
Third in voting intentions, Balarama Holness, head of Mouvement Montréal, garners 12% of support in this latest Léger poll. This is a comeback for him when he previously collected 5% of voting intentions.
“We can see a breath of fresh air that is moving towards Mouvement Montreal. It speaks of our resilience: we have had criticism, stab wounds in the back, and we are determined, ”he said, referring to the many controversies that have marred his party in recent weeks.
He still has his exclusion from the debate organized by Radio-Canada, which had not invited him, to his heart.
“It smacks of systemic racism,” he denounced in this regard. Mr. Holness, however, intended to take advantage of the platform which was offered to him during the televised debate in English, Thursday evening, to make gains and consolidate his place with the approach of the poll. Ms. Plante and Mr. Coderre also accepted the invitation launched by a media consortium in the metropolis.
The elections will take place on November 7. Advance polling will take place over the weekend.
