Elections and demonstration at the APTS congress

The Alliance of Professional and Technical Staff in Health and Social Services (APTS) elected a new president on Thursday.

Robert Comeau, who had held the interim presidency for several months, was elected by acclamation at the convention which was held from November 15 to 18. He thus obtained a two-year mandate.

The congress delegation also elected 19 national representatives.

Exasperated by the slowness of the government to grant negotiating mandates, more than 750 delegates from the APTS suspended their work at the congress on Thursday to demonstrate in the streets of Laval.

Contingents of demonstrators from the Sheraton Hotel and the Palace Convention Center met on the Boulevard le Carrefour viaduct, above Highway 15, to light smoke and hazard lights.

“Our 60,000 members have the impression of being invisible in the eyes of Sonia LeBel, President of the Conseil du trésor. If she wants to meet us and settle the negotiation of our collective agreement once and for all, she knows where to find us, ”said Robert Comeau.

The collective agreement for APTS members expired on March 31, 2020.
