(Trois-Rivières) The deputy and former Minister of Health, Gaétan Barrette, will not be in the next election race in October 2022. The elected representative of La Pinière will confirm on Sunday that he will not seek a new mandate, according to our information. Mr. Barrette has been without accountability in caucus since a controversial tweet about family physicians.
Liberal leader Dominique Anglade summoned the media for an announcement with Gaétan Barrette on Sunday morning at the office of the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) in Montreal. The press conference will be to confirm that the former minister Gaétan Barrette will not again solicit the confidence of the voters of La Pinière, at the next general election, in October 2022.
The deputy Gaétan Barrette left since the fall suspense on his decision while he said he was still thinking.
The Liberal leader took away all his responsibilities at the end of October when Mr. Barrette found himself at the center of the controversy with the former Liberal Marie Montpetit. The member for Maurice-Richard – who has since been excluded from the Liberal caucus – had criticized her colleague on Twitter, inviting him to change the tone in the file of family doctors when the latter was not responsible for health.
The leader had not liked Mr. Barrette to comment on this health issue while the position of the political party on the subject had not yet been defined.
Since the incident with Marie Montpetit, the member for La Pinière has stayed away from the public sphere.
