(Ottawa) Justin Trudeau was quick to drop the gloves. Two days after Pierre Poilievre was elected leader of the Conservative Party, he launched a full-throated charge against his opponent, his “slogans” and his “empty phrases”.

The Prime Minister of Canada began his speech by taking up themes dear to his training, from the fight against climate change to that against inflation, including post-pandemic recovery and by reiterating the slogan of “hope and “hard work”.
But very quickly, he turned his attention to his new opponent.
Yes, the Liberals will try to work with all the opposition parties, as the people wanted by giving them a minority mandate a year ago. But no, they will not hesitate to “denounce the questionable and irresponsible economic positions” coming from the conservative benches, he decided.
“What Canadians need is responsible leadership. Slogans, hollow phrases, reckless attacks, that’s not having a plan, ”lashed Justin Trudeau in a speech delivered on the sidelines of his caucus meeting in New Brunswick.
He notably denounced the “attacks against the institutions that make our society safe, fair and free”, and the suggestions made by Pierre Poilievre to invest their savings in cryptocurrency to protect themselves against inflation.
“By the way, anyone who followed this advice would have seen their savings destroyed,” pleaded the Prime Minister.
The table is therefore set for the first clash between the two men in the House of Commons, which could take place somewhere next week. Parliament will sit on Thursday, but it will be to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
Work should resume on September 20, the day after the monarch’s funeral in London, where Prime Minister Trudeau.
