Guadeloupean elected officials “deplore the climate of terror” in a statement released Thursday, December 16, while a general strike, punctuated by violence, has been going on for a little over a month in Guadeloupe at the call of a collective against the vaccine obligation.

At the end of a meeting Thursday, about fifty local elected officials denounced “the inadmissible attacks on the physical integrity of many health professionals”.

On Wednesday, the offices of the director of the CHU of Guadeloupe and his team were targeted, according to the management of the establishment on Thursday. “Half a dozen men wearing surgical masks” they’ve thrown “two large pebbles” against the window of the office of the director of the establishment, Gérard Cotellon, who was present there, according to the management of the CHU.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon, the management of the CHU also deplores that the main access to the establishment is “again hampered by trade unions filtering the entry”.

“Patients have difficulty accessing the establishment, external suppliers and companies are turned away”, still deplores this press release, denouncing “a situation that has lasted too long”.

In a tweet broadcast on Thursday evening, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran mentioned the courage of the director of the CHU “in the face of threats as well as shameful insults” by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The leader of La France insoumise met the collective of trade unions mobilized against the vaccine obligation and held a meeting which brought together around 900 people according to local media.
