On the fourteenth day of war, the evacuations of civilians are accelerating, Wednesday, March 9. A new ceasefire agreement has been reached. The elderly are urgently evacuated. In Irpin (Ukraine), strollers, trolleys and wheelbarrows were requisitioned by rescuers.
Faced with the bombardments, fleeing is heartbreaking for every Ukrainian. The ordeal is formidable for the most fragile. A man carrying a crying child in his arms tries to reassure him: “don’t cry kid, you don’t have to“. In Irpin, a crossing point to reach Kiev, many civilians happen to be infants or elderly people among the refugees. All leave behind their homes and their lives. But in this locality, not everyone leaves Residents of a nursing home do not leave town, but join a bomb shelter.
The war does not spare the elderly in Ukraine. It is difficult to be able to rest and imagine a future. “How can I find myself there? I’m turning 80, I can’t sleep here on the floor and be alone”, worries an elderly lady. Another says she was unable to take her personal belongings because she fled under fire. “If they have to kill me, let them do it”she said, crying.
