Like a year earlier, the trophy was played after suspense, on penalties. The Europa League final crowned Eintracht Frankfurt, Wednesday May 18, winner of Glasgow Rangers (1-1, 5-4 tab). To succeed Villarreal, the German club followed the example of its predecessor by not missing any of its shots on goal. The Rangers were weighed down by their fourth shooter, Aaron Ramsey, in failure against Kevin Trapp.
The former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper was one of the strong men of this very close final. Before the decisive session, he had already preserved his team’s chances thanks to a miraculous point-blank save against Ryan Kent at the end of extra time (117th). Frankfurt also owes a lot to its striker Rafael Borré, author of the winning shot on goal but also the equalizing goal (69th), who had responded to the opener from Joe Aribo (57th).

In Seville, Eintracht was able to taste the flavor of a European title, he who had already been crowned in C3 in 1980, against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the final. Above all, the future club of Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani (and the current one of Evan Ndicka), recent winner of the Coupe de France with Nantes, will compete in the Champions League next season.
